 PT 30 - Masai Mara Classic  I

Day 1

Be ready for collection from your hotel by 7.30 am

You drive out of Nairobi through Kikuyu villages and up to wards the escarpment. Wind your way down the escarpment wall with breathtaking views into the Great Rift Valley. Continue along the Valley a short way and then turn west towards the Masai Mara. Just before you start climbing the opposite wall of the escarpment. Arrive in Narok, the administrative centre for the Masai community.

You drive across the Loita Plains, often very busy with grazing animals, and arrive in Mara Simba Lodge in time for lunch. After lunch time to relax and explore the grounds of the lodge and then an evening game drive in the Reserve.

Mara Simba was conceived, not just as an overnight stop but as a safari resort, as the ultimate lodge in the Masai Mara. The emphasis is on exclusivity and comfort, the ambiance is Maasai, the décor incorporating ethnic design elements from the culture of the proud tribe in whose realm the lodge is set. The grounds extend almost a kilometre along the Talek River-the river bank is left in its virgin state, while further back lush, landscaped gardens of indigenous plants and trees, attract colourful birds and butterflies. Wide, well-lit pathways link guest rooms and public areas. The lodge, overlooking a dramatic bend in the river, is designed to complement its natural setting.

This is the home of the largest concentrations of animals in Kenya, and is the northern extension of the famous Tanzania Serengeti National Park. It is in this area that the annual migration of wildebeeste, accompanied by the predators, takes place (normally between June and September).

Huge prides of lions live in the Mara;  cheetah are often found on the plains.

There are large herds of elephant and buffalo (but sadly few rhino remain). Impala, zebra, giraffe, the unusual topi, and many other antelope graze across the famous grassy plains.  The birdlife is fantastic.

Return to Mara Simba for dinner and overnight.

Day 2

There is an opportunity for an optional hot air balloon safari this morning.

The day is spent game driving in the Reserve.

Lunch and dinner are taken at Mara Simba Lodge.

Day 3

Breakfast and drive back to Nairobi arriving before lunch at the end of your safari.
