Day 1 Amboseli

Be ready for collection from your hotel
from 6.30 a.m.
You depart from the civil aviation
airport (Wilson) and fly for just over
30 minutes across the Athi plains and on
towards Mt. Kilimanjaro. You land at the
airstrip in the centre of the park,
often with
animals close by, and game drive on your
way Tortillis Camp, your lodge
for your overnight visit.
Amboseli National Park
is a seasonal swamp; during the wet
season the waters spill over a large
area, attracting many different animals
and a great variety of birds. During
the dry weather the swamp dries up and
the landscape is alive with swirling
'dust devils' and a
shimmering mirage. The Park is always
dominated by the huge bulk of Mt.
Kilimanjaro, at 5895 metres, the highest
mountain in Africa. The mountain
generally hides its ice cap shyly behind
clouds during the day, but the sheer
beauty of the mountain in the early
morning or late evening is an
unforgettable sight.
After lunch there is time to relax and
then an evening game drive, returning to
Tortilis Camp as the sun goes down.
