PT 40 -  Maasai Mara Classic II

Day 1 Great Rift Valley

Be ready for collection from your hotel between 1.30 pm - 2.00 pm

You drive out of Nairobi through Kikuyu villages and up to just beyond Limuru where you drop over the edge of the escarpment and wind down the wall, with breathtaking views into the Great Rift Valley. Your destination is Lake Naivasha, one of a string of beautiful lakes lying in this valley and you look over the lake as you approach through the town of Naivasha.

The night is spent at Lake Naivasha Country Club on half board. After check‑in there is time for a late afternoon boat ride on the lake, searching for the hippo and admiring the varied bird life. Return to the Club in time for a sundowner before dinner.

 Day 2  Masai Mara

Leaving after an early breakfast you drive back along the valley a short way and then turn towards the western wall of the escarpment. Arrive in Narok, the administrative centre for the Masai community. Continue across the Loita Plains, probably seeing plains game grazing and arrive at Sarova Mara Lodge in time for lunch.

After lunch a short rest and then it is time for your first game drive in the Mara.

The Maasai Mara Game Reserve is the home of the largest concentrations of animals in Kenya, and is the northern extension of the famous Tanzania Serengeti National Park. It is in this area that the annual migration of wildebeeste, accompanied by the predators, takes place (normally between June and September). Resident wildebeeste always dot the plains.

Huge prides of lion live in the Mara;  cheetah are often found on the plains. There are large herds of elephant and buffalo (but sadly few rhino remain here). Impala, zebra, giraffe, the unusual topi and many other antelope graze across the famous grassy plains. The birdlife in the Mara is fantastic.

You return to the lodge in time for a shower before dinner.

Day 3  Masai Mara

An early morning game drive (or perhaps you would prefer to take an exciting balloon safari ‑ optional arrangement). Return to the lodge for breakfast and then time for relaxation and to enjoy a swim or a walk around the walkway.

NOTE  :  The early morning calm of the  Mara  has made  possible the operation of BALLOON  flights, available  as an optional extra if  not  included in  your programme, from the leading  properties of the Reserve.  Please enquire and book early to avoid disappointment.

After lunch an afternoon game drive.

Dinner and overnight at Sarova Mara Lodge

Day 4  Nairobi

After an early breakfast you drive back to Nairobi, arriving just before lunch at the end of your safari.

We recommend adding an optional flight back to Nairobi from the Mara. Please enquire from your Driver Guide.
